Hazleton store holdup probed Police Blotter

HAZLETON — City police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred early Wednesday morning at a Turkey Hill store.

A man walked into the convenience store located at 800 Alter St., displayed a handgun and asked for all the money from the register around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said. The man, described as wearing sunglasses and a black jacket with a hood pulled up over his head, ran toward Lafayette Court with an unknown amount of cash.

Police further described the man as white, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall, having a thin build and wearing gray pants and white sneakers.

Anyone with information about the holdup is asked to contact Hazleton Police Department at 459-4940.

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:

Narissa Curtis, 27, and Dennis Mason, 37, both of Wilkes-Barre, and Husani Laviscount, 21, of Jamaica, N.Y., were arrested for alleged public drunkenness after causing a disturbance in front of Salerno’s Bar, Carey Avenue, around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

Laviscount was found to be wanted by New York City, police said. He was also charged as a fugitive from justice and taken to Luzerne County Correctional Facility to be arraigned, police said.

A 2005 GMC truck rented by a 41-year-old Hunlock Creek man was never returned to Budget Rent-A-Car, 391 Kidder St., police said. The vehicle was later recovered in Arkansas.

HANOVER TWP. – Township police alleged Jeffrey Shinko, 30, of Plymouth, was found in possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia just before 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers said they observed Shinko stopped in the rear of Oaklawn Cemetery, South Main Street.

Police said that when contact was made with him they found marijuana and Shinko admitted to smoking.

Police said charges will be filed against Shinko.

WILKES-BARRE – State police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement said they cited Ryan Rocco Bracey, 21, of Raritan, N.Y., with furnishing alcohol to minors on Monday.

Police said Bracey purchased alcohol at Pizza Fella’s, South Main Plaza, South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, which he later gave to a 20-year-old in the area of South Main and South streets.

Bracey was charged with two counts of furnishing alcohol to minors, police said. The charges were filed with District Judge William Amesbury in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

KINGSTON – State police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement said Taputanu, 283-285 Pierce St., Kingston, was recently cited with selling alcohol to a minor.
