Police Blotter

WILKES-BARRE – A man remains in critical condition after officials say he was assaulted in front of Schiels’ Family Market on Thursday night.

William Bentley, 24, who suffered from an apparent head injury, was walking toward the entrance of the grocery store when a fight ensued between two groups of men at about 9:30 p.m., according to Wilkes-Barre police. A witness said one of three men punched Bentley whose head hit the store wall. Bentley was in the intensive care as of Friday night at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, according to John Kopec, a nursing supervisor.

City police along with detectives from Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office are investigating and following several leads, police said. Schiels’ Family market is cooperating fully in the probe. Police said the incident was not a random act. The individuals were known to each other. Investigators are confident an arrest will be made in the near future. DUPONT – A Moosic woman was arrested on allegations she punched and bit a man at a home early Friday morning.

Adrienne E. Pisano, 21, of 3908 Lawrence Ave., was arraigned on charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment, court records show. He was jailed at Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.

Dupont police allege Pisano punched Jordan Thomas in the head, knocked him on a sofa and bit him on his chest at 317 Chestnut St. around 2:45 a.m.

A preliminary hearing has been tentatively scheduled for April 6 in Central Court.

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:

A man reported around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday that he found apparent bullet holes in the windows of his residence on Bowman Street.

Bruce Leon Sperling, 34, of Carson, Calif., reported an unknown suspect broke into his company car and stole a brief case, laptop computer and an iPod on East Northampton and Hillside streets on Thursday.

Julio Lopez, 42, came home from work and found three screws were taken from his front door handle at 47 Elizabeth St. around 4:10 p.m. Thursday.

Police said an unknown suspect entered 35-year-old Madeline Jeremiah’s residence and stole a Nintendo Wii and a Playstation 3 from her residence at 115 Madison St. between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday.

Someone smashed Dustin Drevitch’s vehicle window and broke the dashboard on South Main Street between 7:20 p.m. Wednesday and 12:04 a.m. Thursday.

Lisha Sukalowski, 28, of Myrtle Street, Hanover Township, reported around 6 p.m. Thursday that someone entered her vehicle and stole the registration and insurance cards at Park and Lock, South Main Street

The suspect also removed gas from the gas tank of the vehicle.

A male juvenile gave a false name to officers pursuant to an investigation at A-Plus Mini-mart, 144 Academy St., around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Terah Odoi was charged with public drunkenness and criminal mischief for allegedly being intoxicated and engaging in a fight with another person causing damage to a table in Denny’s restaurant, 488 Kidder St., around 2:40 a.m. Thursday.

Sharon Sarf reported a person she knew threw several objects at her on East Main Street late Wednesday night. The victim wanted no further police action.

A woman reported around 9:30 a.m. Thursday that an unknown suspect took her green 1996 Plymouth Voyager from near her home on North Washington Street. The value of the vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

Someone stole a woman’s tan 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier from near her home on Spring Street on Thursday. The value of the vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

A man reported someone used his credit card on East Thomas Street on Thursday.

Police said a woman reported around 7:50 a.m. Thursday that an unknown suspect forced entry into her residence and removed property valued at approximately $1,500 on Joseph Lane.

Police said someone forced entry to a home on North Pennsylvania Avenue and stole approximately $2,000 worth of property around 7:35 a.m. Thursday.

• Anna Dunlap, 23, reported on Thursday someone burglarized her residence on West River Street and stole a laptop computer, cameras and a gold bracelet.

• Police are investigating a stabbing at Jackson and North Washington streets early Friday morning. James P. McCann said he was assaulted from behind by someone with a sharp weapon at about 1:12 a.m. McCann was taken to a hospital for treatment.

HARVEYS LAKE – State police at Wyoming arrested a man for failure to comply with sex offender requirements of Megan’s Law.

Ernest M. Backley, 39, of Harveys Lake, was arraigned Thursday on a charge of failing to comply with registration of sexual offender’s requirement, court records show. He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Police allege Backley changed his address to RR 1 Box 142 Lot 18 on April 24, 2007, and did not verify his address with Pennsylvania State Police as required by Megan’s Law.

A preliminary hearing has been tentatively scheduled for April 2 in Central Court.

NANTICOKE – A man was charged Friday morning on allegations he prevented his 70-year old mother from leaving a bedroom during a dispute.

John Joseph Everhart, 31, of Honey Pot Street, Nanticoke, was charged with stalking and unlawful restraint. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail. Police said Everhart’s mother locked herself in a bedroom during an argument Thursday night. Everhart kicked the door open and refused to let her mother leave, according to the criminal complaint. A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on April 6 in Central Court.
