BUTLER TWP. – A Drums man who was involved in a one-vehicle accident was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Tuesday morning.
David Copeland, 35, of Sugarloaf Heights Road, driver of a pickup truck, failed to negotiate a curve and struck an embankment in the area of North Old Turnpike Road, near Glendale Lane, just after midnight, police said.
Copeland exhibited signs of intoxication while speaking with officers, police said. During the investigation, police believed he may have been armed and searched him.
Police found brass knuckles and drug paraphernalia in his possession.
Copeland was arrested and taken to Hazleton General Hospital for a blood-alcohol test. Charges are expected following the conclusion of the investigation, police said.
KINGSTON – A man was charged by police on Friday for assaulting an officer during a domestic dispute on West Market Street.
Lee Edgar Burgess, 46, of West Market Street, Kingston, was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct, and one count each of simple assault and resisting arrest. He was released on his own recognizance.
According to the criminal complaint:
Police said they were investigating a dispute between Burgess and a woman on West Market Street just before 11 p.m. Thursday. Burgess yelled obscenities and refused to remove his hands from his pockets.
Burgess struggled with officers when he was arrested. An Edwardsville officer assisting at the dispute sustained a minor leg injury, the criminal complaint says.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on June 29 in Central Court.
WILKES-BARRE – The state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement cited Two City Brothers Inc., owners of Cherry’s, 368 Hazle St., for three violations on May 6.
Those violations include failing to expose a temporary authority letter under a transparent substance on the licensed premises; permitting smoking where smoking is prohibited; and failure to post signage as required by the Clean Indoor Air Act, the bureau said.
