Police Blotter

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:

• Mary Angeli, of Oak Street, reported Monday that someone stole money from him.

• Kenneth Hicks, 29, of Sheridan Street, was captured at 3:30 a.m. Monday at 154 Carlisle St. on an arrest warrant for alleged simple assault.

• Eileen Carmody, of Kidder Street, reported more than 100 prescription tablets, five morphine patches and a check were stolen during a burglary at her residence on Saturday.

• Thomas Carmody, of Kidder Street, reported someone entered his residence by smashing a bathroom window on Saturday and stole prescription tablets and $60 in quarters.

• Police said they arrested Marco Lopez-Altamirano, no age or address given, on evidence of drunken driving after a traffic stop at 2:20 a.m. Sunday at East Northampton Street and South Wilkes-Barre Boulevard.

• Joseph Corbett told police he was assaulted by a man in the parking lot of McDonald’s, Kidder Street, at 10:53 p.m. Sunday.

During the assault, Corbett claimed, two women removed his money, a cell phone and a watch, before speeding away in a red Pontiac Grand Am.

• Police said Brian Briggs, 21, of Nanticoke, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia when he was allegedly found with contraband on Public Square at 6:22 p.m. Sunday.

• A driver failed to pay for $35.01 worth of gasoline at a service station on South Main Street on Sunday.

• Police said David Donovan, 38, of Wilkes-Barre, was charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct after an incident on Blackman Street at 4:17 p.m. Sunday.

• Police said a taillight on a vehicle was smashed on Blackman Street on Sunday.

AVOCA – A woman told police she was assaulted and robbed by two men when she stopped her vehicle at an intersection Saturday night.

Police said the woman exited Interstate 81 just before 11:15 p.m. and stopped at William Street, where, she claimed, two men emerged from woods, approached her vehicle and struck her in the face through an open window.

Police said the men demanded money, and after being given money, they demanded more cash.

The men attempted to steal the woman’s vehicle by force, and took a bag of clothing before they ran away in woods when another vehicle approached the intersection, police said.

Police described the suspects as a tall white male wearing a black T-shirt, and a tall black male wearing a red bandanna and a white T-shirt.

HANOVER TWP. – State police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement reported the following:

• M&G Holdings Inc., doing business as Black Diamond Tavern, 204 Dana St., Swoyersville, was recently cited with furnishing alcohol to an intoxicated person, failing to require patrons to vacate facility 30 minutes after closing, and permitting patrons to remove alcohol from the facility 30 minutes after closing.

• Northeast Restaurant Group Inc., doing business as TGI Fridays, 880 Kidder St., Wilkes-Barre, was recently cited with offering a beer at a reduced price of $2 until 2 a.m. when the regular price was $3.70 between midnight and 2 a.m.

BUCK TWP. – State police at Wyoming said an exterior light was found damaged at a residence on Buck River Road on Thursday.

NEWPORT TWP. - A Glen Lyon man was charged by township police on Monday for allegedly aiming a shotgun at a neighbor.

Zachary Ryan, 21, of West Main Street, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Michael Torres told police he asked Ryan to turn down music because he was studying around 10 p.m. Sunday. When Ryan opened the door, Torres claimed, Ryan aimed a shotgun at him and called him a racial epithet.

Torres walked back to his residence, where, he claimed, Ryan tried to “sucker punch” him several times. Torres was unable to close his front door as Ryan smashed the glass.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on July 7 in Central Court.

EDWARDSVILLE - A man was charged by police on Sunday for allegedly assaulting several police officers, including spitting blood at an officer.

Ryan Edward Cordy, 21, of Roosevelt Street, Edwardsville, was charged with six counts of aggravated assault, four counts of disorderly conduct, three counts each of simple assault and harassment, and one count each of aggravated harassment by prisoner and public drunkenness.

He was arraigned by District Judge Ronald Swank in Wright Township and remained jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $30,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Police investigated a fight in the area of 512 Roosevelt St. at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when Cordy and two men were observed walking away.

Cordy refused commands to lie on the ground and yelled, “What the (expletive) for, I didn’t do (expletive),” the criminal complaint says. Police said Cordy kicked an officer in the shoulder when he was arrested.

After Cordy was transported to the Edwardsville Police Department, police allege Cordy shoved an officer against a door.

Two officers fell to the floor during a struggle, in which Cordy suffered an injury to his face.

Police allege Cordy spat blood at an officer.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on July 7 in Central Court.
