Police Blotter

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following incidents:

• Francesco Leggio, 18, of Plains Township, was arrested at 6 p.m. Saturday on East Market Street on charges of possession of a controlled substance after police stopped him for driving on the wrong side of the road.

Police said Leggio was found to be in possession of marijuana.

• Mathew McGinnis of Mountain Top reported at 11:36 p.m. Friday that someone stole items from his 1998 Jeep when it was parked in the 60 block of Terrace Street.

• John S. Sims III, 22, of Wilkes-Barre, was arrested and held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility after a complainant reported at 2:42 a.m. Saturday that Sims damaged a Poplar Street home and the complainant’s vehicle. Officers found Sims intoxicated a short distance away. Sims was treated at a local hospital after he said he was assaulted by several men after a dispute at a relative’s home. He was then transported to the county jail.

• A complainant reported about 11:08 p.m. Friday that someone entered his vehicle on South Hancock Street and removed property worth $100.

• A domestic dispute led to three people being arrested and charged with disorderly conduct about 5:58 a.m. Saturday on West Chestnut Street. Police said a 16-year-old male, 45-year-old Carl Hazur and Karla Calero, 42, all of Wilkes-Barre, were arrested when they refused to comply with officers’ orders.

• A complainant reported about 11:25 p.m. Monday that someone took $150 from her purse while she was on East Northampton Street.

• John Beres, 36, of Wilkes-Barre was arrested after a complainant reported at 10:02 a.m. Saturday that Beres violated a protection from abuse order because he was harassing her by phone and sending text messages.

• Autumn Biggs of North Sherman Street reported at 1 p.m. Thursday that someone stole her vehicle inspection sticker off her 1996 Chevrolet.

LUZERNE COUNTY – The Pennsylvania State Police’s Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement conducted age compliance checks at six licensed businesses in Luzerne County from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday using supervised underage buyers. Five of the businesses passed the checks when they did not sell alcoholic beverages to the minors after checking the buyers’ identification. The companies that passed are: The Press Box and Bull Run Deli in Plymouth, J & J Deli in Dallas, Tipsy Turtle in Swoyersville and The Big House in Hanover Township.
