WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:

• A hairdresser arrested Wednesday for allegedly selling heroin from a hair salon business on North River Street also was in possession of a stolen firearm, according to arrest records.

Shirley T. Shelby, 31, of North River Street, was charged Thursday with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, illegal firearm possession and receiving stolen property. She was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $2,500 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

City police and agents with the state Office of Attorney General’s Luzerne County Drug Task Force searched Deanata’s African Hair Weaving Salon at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Shelby was found in the parking lot holding a plastic bag that police said was filled with 15 packets of heroin, the criminal complaint says.

At her home police found a handgun hidden in a dresser drawer, the criminal complaint says.

Police said the handgun was reported stolen to state police at Tunkhannock in May 2007. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 4 in Central Court.

Paul McGrane, of Wilkes-Barre, reported that $20 was taken out of his 2002 Honda that was parked in his driveway at 38 Grebe St. at 1:36 p.m. on Aug. 20, police said.

Mohammed Mohsen Zijoudi, of Wilkes-Barre, was arrested on evidence of drunken driving after a traffic stop on Market Street and Pennsylvania Avenue at 8:38 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

DUI charges are pending, according to police.

EDWARDSVILLE – A man facing charges that he stole fish and meat from a Wilkes-Barre grocery store in May was arrested Wednesday night and charged with stealing from another store.

Raymond John Cordy, 50, of Horton Street, Wilkes-Barre, was charged with two felony counts of retail theft. He was released on $2,500 unsecured bail.

Edwardsville police said Cordy exited Redner’s Market with a garbage bag filled with eight cans of crab meat and two packages of meat products at about 7:30 p.m., according to the criminal complaint.

The value of the merchandise was $250, police said.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 4 in Central Court.

Cordy is facing several retail theft charges in Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas for allegedly stealing items from Schiel’s Family Market, George Avenue, in May, according to court records.

WILKES-BARRE TWP. – Township police reported the following:

Police arrested three male juveniles, ages 13, 14 and 15, all from Wilkes-Barre, for allegedly shoplifting at JCPenney store at Wyoming Valley Mall around 8 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

According to store security, the juveniles left the store without paying for $248 worth of clothing. They will each be charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.

Two boys, ages 14 and 15, both from Newark, N.J., were arrested for shoplifting at Wal-Mart Supercenter at Wilkes-Barre Township Marketplace on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Store security told police the juveniles left the store without paying for $28.13 worth of merchandise. They were both charged with a summary count of retail theft, police said.

BUTLER TWP. – Township police reported the following:

A West Hazleton man was arrested Tuesday and charged with a July 15 burglary at a local golf shop, police said.

Keith M. Hall, 27, was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief, police said. He is jailed in Luzerne County Correctional Facility on unrelated charges.

Hall allegedly broke a window and stole money from Mickey’s Golf Center and Driving Range on St. Johns Road during the early morning hours, according to a police affidavit.

Police said Hall injured himself during the burglary and left blood evidence at the scene. He was subsequently interviewed at the jail and admitted to the burglary, police said.

Hall was arraigned by District Judge Daniel O’Donnell, Sugarloaf, on Tuesday afternoon and bail was set at $15,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 3 at Central Court.

Police cited two people following an early morning traffic stop along South Hunter Highway near Foothills Drive on Saturday, police said.

The driver, Terrence W. Clarke, 20, of Wyoming Street, Hazleton, did not have a driver’s license, police said. Clarke was also determined to have been drinking, police said.

A passenger, identified as Joseph A. McAloose, 20, was also determined to have been drinking, police said.

Both were cited for underage drinking, police said. Police are investigating a theft of a statue from the Stagecoach Inn Restaurant, 668 N. Hunter Highway, in Drums.

A large wood carving of a lumberjack, which served as a memorial, had stood in front of the building, police said. ,Someone stole the statue late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

A 48-year-old Drums woman was issued citations following a disturbance at a residence around 8 p.m. Monday, police said.

Police were contacted by a victim who reported she had been struck during an altercation. As a result of the investigation, Terrie Rogers, of Misty Lane, was charged with harassment and disorderly conduct.

Police are investigating a Drums man’s vehicle that was damaged by ATVs on East Butler Drive around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Two ATVs and a dirt bike were traveling west on the berm of the roadway when one of the vehicles kicked up a stone and struck the windshield of an on-coming vehicle, police said.

A Drums man was jailed following a domestic dispute at his home on Birch Street Saturday evening, police said.

Angelo A. Errichetto, 41, of Birch Street, was arrested as a result of the incident, according to police. He was charged with indirect criminal contempt after violating a protection-from-abuse order.

Errichetto was taken to Luzerne County Correctional Facility to await an overnight arraignment. No bail information was available.

Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Sugarloaf Heights Road, about a half-mile west of Hobby Mountain Road, around 10:15 p.m. Friday.

The crash occurred when a 16-year-old girl was traveling west and lost control of her vehicle, police said. The vehicle crossed the eastbound lane and went down an approximate 30-foot embankment. The teen sustained minor injuries and was taken to Hazleton General Hospital by Valley Regional EMS.
