PLYMOUTH – A man was charged by borough police for allegedly slamming a pregnant woman onto a couch several times during a domestic dispute around 1:30 a.m. Friday.
David A. Young, 35, of 34 Cherry St., was arraigned later that morning on two counts of simple assault and one count of harassment, according to court records. He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Borough police allege in arrest papers that Young slammed Julie Freiters, who was seven months pregnant, off the couch and hurt her finger at Young’s home.
Freiters told police she was scared of Young and feared for her safety while Young was assaulting her, the criminal complaint states. Young told police that he was only trying to get Freiters’ purse, police said.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 15.
WEST PITTSTON – Borough police are investigating recent reports of thefts from vehicles and from inside homes. Most of the incidents have occurred during the daylight hours.
Small amounts of cash and forms of identification have been taken, along with two high-end bicycles, police said. Police believe the crimes may be related because of the close proximity of the offenses. Most of the offenses occurred with no forced entry.
Police said there may have been more incidents that have not been reported and asked residents to report them and any attempted thefts.
If anyone has information, they should contact West Pittston Police Department at 655-7780, ext. 229, and leave a message for the on-duty officer.
