WILKES-BARRE – Three Nanticoke residents face numerous charges after a traffic stop Friday on Horton Street.

Norman Mayewski, 50, was pulled over at 4:23 p.m., after police noticed his vehicle had an altered registration plate, police said.

Police patted down Mayewski and his passengers – Sandra Mayewski, 46, and Theodore Glowacki, 25 -- for officers’ safety, and found the Mayewskis to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, police said, adding that Glowacki became disorderly.

Police said that during a search of the vehicle they found two firearms, one of which was stolen, ammunition, knives and more drug paraphernalia.

Glowacki was cited with disorderly conduct. Norman Mayewski was charged with weapons violations and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sandra Mayewski was charged with weapons violations, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Mayewskis were arraigned before District Judge Andrew Barilla and lodged at the county prison for lack of $5,000 bail each. Their preliminary hearing dates were unavailable on Sunday.

City police could not confirm whether the stolen gun belonged to a Hanover Township man. Township police reported on Friday that city police recovered a stolen handgun in a traffic stop in the city and called the township man to inform him they had his handgun.

HANOVER TWP. – A Warrior Run man has been arrested for allegedly stealing his grandfather’s handgun.

Township police said Carl F. Andrews, of McGovern Hill Road in the Upper Askam section of the township, reported at 6:45 p.m. Friday that his handgun had been stolen.

Andrews said he had been contacted by Wilkes-Barre police, who told him that his handgun was recovered during a traffic stop in the city. He said he checked his home and found that the gun was missing.

An investigation revealed that Andrews’ grandson, Carl P. Andrews, had entered Andrews’ home and stolen the gun, police said.

Carl P. Andrews, 22, of Orchard Street, Warrior Run, was arraigned on charges of unlawful taking and criminal trespass before District Judge David Barilla and assigned a preliminary hearing date of Oct. 6 at 9:30 a.m. before District Judge Joseph Halesey in Hanover Township.

He was released from the county prison on $1,000 bail on Sunday.

HAZLE TWP. – Someone spray painted the letters “NOS” on the Hazleton Veterinary Hospital building on state Route 309 sometime between 2 p.m. Saturday and 7:15 a.m. Sunday, state police in Hazleton said.

There were also empty “NOS” sticker packages lying on the ground where this took place, police said.

HANOVER TWP. – A Pittston man faces numerous charges after allegedly violating a protection order on Saturday.

Township police responded to a Taft Street apartment for a report of an intoxicated man attempting to gain entry to a residence. Upon arriving, police found John Patte inside, police said.

Donna Zavaskas told police Patte was an ex-boyfriend who had no permission to enter her residence. Police said they determined that Patte entered through an unlocked bedroom window.

Police said Patte was taken into custody after a brief struggle and charged with criminal trespass, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned before District Judge Andrew Barilla in Swoyersville and lodged at the county prison for lack of $3,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. Oct. 6 before District Judge Joseph Halesey.

HAZLETON – City police reported the following:

• Alexander Estudillo, 35, of Jefferson Avenue, West Hazleton, was arrested and cited with public drunkenness after an incident in the 60 block of North Bennett Court at 8:38 a.m. Sunday, police said.

• Chris Zerfas, of Muir Avenue, reported that someone damaged a Hyundai Sonata parked near the owner’s residence sometime between 3:30 and 4 a.m. Sunday.

HAZLE TWP. – Jennifer Hazleton Tirchi, of the Harleigh section of the township, reported to state police in Hazleton that someone damaged her black 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse while it was parked at state Route 309 and Pardeesville Road between noon Friday and 3:50 p.m. Sunday.

Damage included scratches, dents and broken glass.

HANOVER TWP. – Police are investigating a one-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on the Sans Souci Parkway.

Jaqueline Miller, 43, of West St. Mary’s Road, Hanover Township, was driving a 2004 Ford Escape north when she failed to negotiate a curve, traveled onto the Dundee Car Wash property and struck the concrete base of a vacuum machine.

Miller was transported to an area hospital.

PLAINS TWP. – Police are investigating a rash of recent vehicle break-ins and thefts from vehicles at hotels, the Mohegan Sun casino and the Woodlands Inn.

Police advise residents and visitors to make sure their vehicle doors are locked and valuables are removed from their vehicles.

HANOVER TWP. – Police are investigating a report of criminal mischief at Nimrod Sporting Goods, 1757 Sans Souci Parkway.

Someone threw a rock through the store window at approximately 5:43 a.m. Saturday, police said.

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:

• Police made two arrests while responding to a reported fight near Blackman and Horton streets at 6:19 p.m. Saturday.

Police arrested Derrick Casey Smith, 19, of Easton, and charged him with public drunkenness, underage drinking and disorderly conduct. Police said Smith provided false information about his identity.

Police also arrested a 15-year-old boy and charged him with public drunkenness and underage drinking.

• Catherine Meehan, 53, of Mclean Street, Wilkes-Barre, was arrested and charged with violating a protection from abuse order after she allegedly yelled at Brenda Meehan at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday at 252 McLean St., police said.

• A 13-year-old boy was charged with harassment after he allegedly threatened Peggy Sosnak, of 284 New Hancock St., police said.

Police said the boy had been striking Sosnak’s vehicle with a basketball and Sosnak recovered the ball when it rolled in her yard. The boy made threats while he was on Sosnak’s front porch and while she was contacting 911, police said.

• Police said a victim of access device fraud reported Saturday afternoon that someone used his bank card to access funds from his account in the amount of $167.90.

• A West Ross Street resident reported at 3:20 p.m. Saturday that someone stole her bicycle, worth about $100, from the vestibule of her apartment building.

• A Water Street business reported at 4:54 p.m. Saturday that one or more people made harassing phone calls to the business.
