WILKES-BARRE – Police arrested a man they said was involved in the sale of narcotics at Public Square around 4 p.m. Saturday.
Christopher Rodney Washington, of 70 Davis Place, a homeless shelter in Wilkes-Barre, was taken to overnight arraignment at Luzerne County Correctional Facility on charges of possession with intent to deliver, according to police.
Officers received information on a male suspect involved in drug sales, police said. The suspect was identified as Washington.
Police said Washington produced several packets of suspected heroin, police said.
He was taken into custody and during a pat down search approximately 150 or more packets were found.
WILKES-BARRE – A 52-year-old man who was found hanging in his cell at Wilkes-Barre police headquarters on Thursday committed suicide, according to police.
The man, whose name was not released, had been discovered around 7:50 p.m. unresponsive and was immediately given first-aid, police said.
He was taken to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
An autopsy was conducted Friday by Dr. Gary Ross and Luzerne County Coroner’s Office, police said. The cause of death was ruled asphyxia due to hanging, and the manner of death was suicide.
The incident is under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police, along with Wilkes-Barre police, the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office and the Luzerne County coroner.
SHICKSHINNY – State police at Shickshinny, 872 Salem Blvd., Berwick, will conduct child passenger safety checks from 3 to 9 p.m. today.
