Police probe some similar robberies Police Blotter

WILKES-BARRE – Police are investigating four separate, but similar overnight robberies.

In two of the incidents, police said, the robberies were done by males on bikes. The other two happened at Turkey Hill stores.

The first robbery occurred just before 9 p.m. Friday on Wilkes-Barre Boulevard, police said.

A male juvenile reported two unknown males approached him on BMX bikes, pointed a gun at him and demanded his wallet, police said. The victim handed over his wallet, along with other items, and the suspects fled.

An hour after the first robbery, police said, another male reported he was approached by two males on bikes while he was getting into his car on Sullivan Street around 9:50 p.m., police said.

The robbers then showed weapons and demanded money, police said. When the victim’s friends got out of his vehicle, the suspects took off.

Less than an hour after the second robbery, a woman working at a Turkey Hill told police a male walked into the store on South Main Street and demanded cash.

Police said the victim said no and the suspect produced a knife. The victim then gave the robber an undetermined amount of cash before fleeing.

A similar reported robbery also happened at the Turkey Hill store on Hazle Avenue at 3:31 a.m. Saturday, police said.

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:

Alan Rosenbaum reported unknown suspects broke the window of his residence at 322 Hazle Avenue on Thursday, police said.

Charges were filed against Yvonne Young, of 328 Parkview Circle, Apt. 619, for obstructing administration of law while officers were investigating a report of a vehicle fire and shots fired at the Sherman Hills Apartment Complex on Oct. 19, police said.

Police were interviewing witnesses and a victim when Young approached the area and began screaming and yelling while walking between officers and the victim, police said.

Young was told to move back several times, but police said she refused to comply.

Carl Zarenski reported someone threw a cinderblock at the windshield of his 1991 Buick at 91 Poplar St. on Thursday, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle parked in the northbound lane of North Wilkes-Barre Boulevard just before 3 a.m. Friday, police said.

When they arrived, police found Jacob Robert Thompson, of 22 Spruce St., asleep in the front passenger seat, police said. Thompson was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for public drunkenness, police said.

Thompson was taken to Wilkes-Barre police headquarters where he was processed, cited and then released to a sober adult, according to police.

Charlotte Chand reported she left her residence at about 3 p.m. Thursday and returned later that evening when she noticed someone had attempted to force entry into her home at 268 Barney St., police said. There was damage found on the door of the residence, police said.

Police said Clinton Fought reported an unknown suspect stole his 20-inch orange Mongoose bicycle from the front of his South Franklin Street residence on Friday.

• Tabitha Bidgood, 18, of Wilkes-Barre, was cited with disorderly conduct at 4:09 p.m. Friday for yelling obscenities while on a cell phone after being ordered to stop, police said.

• Someone reported at 2:42 p.m. Friday that the mirrors were damaged on a car parked at the corner of West Ross and South Franklin Streets. The cost of the repair is unknown.

• Luis Cervantis, 55 of Wilkes-Barre, was ticketed for intentionally scattering trash at the corner of South Main Street and South Street at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

• A report of criminal mischief was filed at 4:50 p.m. Saturday when a car parked on Brown Street was damaged with a brick. Cost of the repair is unknown.

• A handgun was reported stolen from a home on Sheldon Street at 5:47 p.m. Friday, police said. The gun is valued at $300.

SHICKSHINNY – Colin Firth II reported he heard a bang outside of his residence at 108 West Union Street, Route 239, around 5 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Firth later realized that a black 1992 Toyota Extended-cab pickup truck had been struck by an unknown hit-and-run vehicle that was last seen traveling north on the roadway, state police at Shickshinny said.

The vehicle scraped the left side of the pickup truck, causing minor damage, police said.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run vehicle is asked to contact the Shickshinny barracks at 542-4117.

HAZLE TWP. – State police at Hazleton said a 14-year-old female from Jim Thorpe is accused of attempting to steal an $8.50 pair of cubic zirconium earrings from Claire’s Boutique at Laurel Mall around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police did not say if charges will be filed against the teen.
