Slippery roads result in numerous crashes Police Blotter

HAZLETON – At least five vehicles were involved in crashes on a stretch of Interstate 81 from Schuylkill County to Nuangola due to slippery conditions on Saturday night.

Another three to five crashes occurred throughout the evening on roads in Luzerne and Carbon counties, according to state police at Hazleton. It was not immediately known if anyone was injured in any of the crashes.

No further information was available by press time.

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:

Tim Bender, 28, reported the front door of his residence at 206 N. Washington St. was damaged on Thursday night.

A woman reported someone stole a $400 diamond engagement ring from her locked computer desk at a residence on Marlboro Avenue on Thursday.

A man reported he was struck by an unknown suspect, which caused a minor laceration to his face, on South Main Plaza on Wednesday night. The victim refused medical attention and wanted no further police action, police said.

A woman reported someone removed $100 in cash from her purse within her residence on Park Avenue on Thursday.

Various items with a total value of approximately $60 were stolen from Turkey Hill, 170 Hazle St., Friday morning.

Someone removed $880 worth of property from a woman’s residence on Midland Court on Friday.

Police alleged Steven Tagnani went to a woman’s North Hancock Street home, where he punched out a front window and fled the area, police said.

WILKES-BARRE – State police stopped William K. Browne, 49 of Wilkes-Barre, at 1:05 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of drunk driving. Browne was stopped driving southbound on South Main Street after the trooper noticed Browne was driving in an erratic manner. Charges will be filed.

BUTLER TWP. – Township police reported the following:

Police cited a 37-year-old homeless man after an incident at a local convenience store on Sunday morning.

Bobby Buggs, formerly of Washington D.C., was cited for disorderly conduct for allegedly cursing at a store clerk and customers around 8:30 a.m. at Uni-Mart on North Hunter Highway, near Interstate 80, police said.

Police are investigating a series of thefts that have been occurring over the past several months at a home on Edgewood Lane. Numerous outdoor statues, including a large concrete fountain, lamps and other items were taken in at least four separate thefts, police said.

A 39-year-old man from Rockledge, Fla., reported his car parked at the Holiday Inn Express was broken into early Tuesday morning. An unknown suspect broke out a window of the guest’s vehicle and stole a Garmin Nuvi GPS.

A 35-year-old woman reported being stalked by a man with a gun in the 600 block of West Foothills Drive on Wednesday evening. Township police and Sugarloaf police responded, but were unable to locate the suspect.
