HAZLETON – A city woman faces assault and related charges in connection with a reported fight involving a knife outside a local nightclub, police said.
City police responded to Club 570 on Club 940 Road at about 1:38 a.m. Monday to investigate a fight that occurred moments earlier, police said.
Raisa Castano, 31, of Hazleton, told police two women punched her in the face near the nightclub entrance. The two women went back in the club and Judith M. Andino-Marquez returned outside with a knife and told Castano she was going to cut her face, Castano told police.
Castano further alleged that as she turned to avoid being cut, Andino-Marquez cut her above the left eyebrow, police said.
Castano was transported to Hazleton General Hospital, treated and released.
Andino-Marquez was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment. She was arraigned before District Judge Paul Hadzick and released later that day from the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail. Her preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday in Central Court.
COURTDALE – Jacob Elko, of Plymouth, reported a .357-caliber Magnum, jewelry, a digital camera, two DVD players, a video game system and gold coins were stolen during a burglary at a residence on Corby Road on Tuesday, state police at Wyoming said.
Anyone with information about the burglary and theft is asked to contact state police at Wyoming at 697-2000.
WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:
Lisa Barkus reported someone spray-painted “Choice” on her employer’s garage, Marsilio Law Office, overnight at 12 Darling St. at 7:49 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
• Police said a male failed to pay for $48 in gasoline at Turkey Hill, North Washington Street, on Tuesday.
• Police said Sylvia Appel, of Wilkes-Barre, and Beth Stefanoski, of Swoyersville, reported someone smashed windows on their vehicles while they were parked outside of Chacko’s Bowling, North Wilkes-Barre Boulevard, on Tuesday.
• Ruth Breymier reported items were stolen from her vehicle when it was parked outside Rite Aid, East Northampton Street, on Tuesday, police said.
• Louise Laine reported copper pipes were stolen from a residence on North Main Street on Tuesday, police said.
• Marie Williams, of Coal Street, reported a Mongoose BMX bicycle was stolen from her yard on Tuesday, police said.
• Ray Hendrickson, of Davis Place, reported that Charles Fenner, 27, threw crabapples at his residence on Tuesday, police said. Police said Fenner is facing a harassment charge.
• Evelyn Mercado reported a leather handbag was stolen from her vehicle when it was parked in the area of 119 Wood St. on Monday, police said.
• A bartender at the Poplar Inn, Poplar Street, claimed she was punched in the face by a patron early Wednesday morning, police said. Police said Tara Rosengrant was tending bar when a group of people entered at about 12:50 a.m. When she requested identification from a male patron, Rosengrant claimed she was punched in the face by a female, police said.
HAZLETON – City police reported the following:
• Jocelyn Keefer and Brittany Wilcox, both of Hazleton, were cited with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after they damaged the front windshield and rear passenger window of a 1992 Acura owned by Greg Gerrone, of Hazleton, during an altercation with the Gerrone near 5th and McKinley streets at about 9:13 p.m. on Monday, police said.
• A 17-year-old boy was injured when the bicycle he was riding at the intersection of 11th and McKinley streets collided with a 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by Jayne Fisher, of Lincoln Street, Hazleton, at about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.
The boy was transported to Hazleton general Hospital by American patient Transport services; Fisher was uninjured, police said.
