Wyoming man charged with stealing vehicle Police Blotter

WYOMING – Police charged a man Wednesday with stealing a vehicle from a residence on Susquehanna Avenue.

William Makelonis, 26, of Eighth Street, Wyoming, was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal mischief, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, escape and public drunkenness.

He was arraigned by District Judge Joseph Carmody in West Pittston and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.

Police allege Makelonis stole a Pontiac Grand Am from the residence Tuesday night. Police found Makelonis sitting inside the vehicle that was parked near Eighth Street at about 11:30 p.m., police said.

Police said Makelonis fled the vehicle and was captured by police Sgt. Mike Fuller and officer Chris Mercavitch.

Additional charges may be filed against Makelonis, police said.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Dec. 2 before Carmody.

LARKSVILLE – Borough police said they are investigating a rash of vehicle break-ins that occurred between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Seven thefts were reported from vehicles parked within a five street area, including First Street, Nesbitt Street and Fifth Street, according to police.

Two vehicles also were broken into on Third and Fourth streets.

Most of the vehicles had been left unlocked and numerous items were removed, including loose change, stereo equipment, Christmas presents CDs and DVDs, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Larksville Police Department at 714-9846. Police are asking residents to ensure all vehicle doors are locked at all times and not to leave any valuables inside.

HAZLE TWP. – State police at Hazleton said someone punctured two tires on Lori Gallagher’s 2008 Mazda while it was parked at Hair Castle, 590 W. 23rd St., between 6:30 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

HANOVER TWP. – Township police on Wednesday reported the following:

Scott Jones, 23, of Nanticoke, reported on Monday that he was traveling on the Sans Souci Parkway, Dundee, around 4 p.m. when a part fell off a black Jeep Wrangler that was traveling in front of him.

Jones’ 2007 Pontiac ran over the part, which was described as a black front bumper guard.

The bumper guard became stuck and damaged the Pontiac’s radiator.

• Police remind residents to remove valuable items and lock their vehicles after a series of vehicle break-ins in recent days.

Police said they are investigating more than 20 reported vehicle break-ins in the past week.

Anyone with information or witnesses a suspicious person near parked vehicles are asked to contact township police at 825-1254.

• Joseph Carey, of Sively Street, reported someone entered his Chrysler Bravada when it was parked near his residence.

• Prasanth Janardhanan, of First Street, reported someone stole a global positioning system from his Chrysler Pacifica while it was parked near his residence.

• Patrick Aregood, of West Saint Mary’s Road, reported someone entered two vehicles while they were parked near his residence.

• Heather Vest, of Hanover Village, reported someone attempted to break in her apartment.

• Kimberly Whitesell, of First Street, reported someone entered her 2002 Acura while it was parked near her residence.

• Diane Morio, of First Street, reported someone stole money from her Kia Optima.

• Peggy Park, of Keith Street, reported someone entered her Ford Escort near her home.

• Arthur Pekata, of Sively Street, reported someone entered his Toyota Camry parked at his home.

• Albert Schlosser, of First Street, reported someone attempted to enter his Ford Probe parked near his home.

HARVEYS LAKE – Police remind residents that all animals must be under control of their custodian at all times per borough ordinance 3-1989.

Failure to comply with this ordinance may result in a fine ranging between $100 to $300, police said.
