City man charged with selling crack Police Blotter

WILKES-BARRE – A city man was arrested Friday afternoon on allegations he sold crack cocaine at the Uni-Mart gas station at East Northampton Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, police said.

Reneard Harris, Sr., 50, was charged with the sale and manufacture of crack cocaine, according to state police at Wyoming.

Police seized 1.5 grams of crack cocaine and $1,249 cash during the arrest, police said.

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:

Police are investigating a robbery that took place on Livingston Lane on Wednesday night, police said.

Lee Ashlin reported three black males approached him and a friend around 10:46 p.m., police said. The males demanded Ashlin’s friend hand over her purse, police said. When she refused, police said, the suspects assaulted her and took Ashlin’s wallet.

Shawtna Gardner, 19, of South Franklin Street, was cited for disorderly conduct after police say she kicked over newspapers and an ash container on East Market Street on Thursday.

Bruce Deeble, of Shavertown, reported his credit card had been used for unauthorized purchases at 41 Spring St. on Thursday, police said.

The investigation is continuing into the matter, police said.

Volunteers of America allege Fatou Njie-Helps, 45, of South River Street, left the store at 400 S. Main St. without paying for a coat on Thursday, police said.

Njie-Helps will be cited for retail theft, police said.

WEST HAZLETON – Two people are facing charges of trespassing at the state police barracks on Thursday night, according to state police.

Tyreese Jermain King, 22, of Bloomsburg, and Alexa Marie Murin, 19, of Kulpmont, were both charged with summary counts of criminal trespass, police said. The pair were waiting in the lobby of the state police barracks for a ride from a prior incident.

King and Murin both left the lobby, headed to Bradley Caldwell parking lot and then proceeded to trespass on clearly posted areas of the state police barracks, police said.

Murin was caught in the barracks impound lot and King was found in a wooded area adjacent to the impound lot, police said.

WILKES-BARRE – Grove Beer & Deli, Grove Street, was recently cited by the state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for selling alcoholic beverages to a minor.

PLYMOUTH TWP. – A Hanover man was arrested on evidence of drunken driving after he crashed into several parked vehicles on state Route 11 early Friday morning, state police at Wyoming said.

Police said Jason Scott Weiss, 28, driving a 1987 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, lost control and struck two pickup trucks and a car at about 12:20 a.m.

The parked vehicles were in front of Patriot Motors, police said.

Police said Weiss exhibited signs of intoxication, and was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, for injuries he sustained in the crash.

BUTLER TWP. – A Hazleton man was taken to a hospital for a blood alcohol test after a vehicle crash on East Foothills Drive that injured a person Wednesday night, police said.

Police said Scott Post, 37, of Beech Street, lost control of a vehicle that struck a utility pole at about 11 p.m.

A passenger in the vehicle, Gina Portanova, 40, was injured and transported to a hospital, police said. Police said Post exhibited signs of intoxication and failed a series of field sobriety test. He was transported to a hospital for a blood alcohol test, police said.

Police said appropriate charges will be filed upon completion of the test.

DENNISON TWP. – State police at Hazleton said a solar panel from a sign along Interstate 80 was stolen from Oct. 17 to Thursday. Police said it is the second solar panel stolen in the area recently.

Ya , the DUI 's are paying fines and doing time . Meanwhile the muggers and violent criminals are still walking the streets untouched . I guess there 's no money to be made on violent criminals ?

i agree w/paul d above. these cops around here would never make it in the real cities! where is all the dui $ going? probaly lining the pockets of the luzerne county officials. they need to pay more attention to the oxy and herion problem around here. i myself have been ignored by police when reporting the drug invested problem around here. luzerne county has a major drug problem including dallas! especially dallas n police do nothing about it and they are very much informed of it and like the previous response to this article there isnt money in drug arrests or they afraid of the dealers. please get the druggies off the strets first!
