Italian sprinter Alessandro Petacchi announced his retirement earlier today.

You can find a complete story on Petacchi on Velonews.com.

Petacchi won the green jersey in the 2010 Tour de France. He also has six career stage wins in the race.

Unfortunately, he is one of the many procyclists to have his career marred by drug use.

Petacchi was caught doping in the 2007 Giro and stripped of five stage victories from that race. He was banned for a year in 2008.

In other pro cycling news, Chris Froome of Britain has won the opening prologue at the Tour of Romandie.

And finally, Greg Lemond claims he has ‘no vendetta’ against Lance Armstrong.

Yeah, we believe you, Greg.

That’s it for today. Now get out there and enjoy this nice day with a ride.
