From Staff and Wire Reports

WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University running back Brett Trichilo has been named
one of five finalists for the Melberger Award, which will be presented by the
Downtown Wilkes-Barre Touchdown Club on Dec. 18.
Other finalists are Blake Elliott of St. John’s University (Minn.), Tyler
Matthews of Linfield College (Ore.), Joel Steele of Anderson University (Ind.)
and Tony Sutton of the College of Wooster (Ohio).

The finalists, selected by representatives from the Touchdown Club’s board
of directors, were chosen from the athletes identified as a Player of the Week
or Most Valuable Player from the 28 Division III Football Conferences across
the nation.

The candidate receiving the most ballots by the club’s board of directors
will be presented with the award. When the award was founded in 1993 by John
Chwalek, a media selection panel chose the winner.

Trichilo this season became only the sixth back in Division III history to
top 2,000 yards rushing in a season. The junior from Dunmore piled up 2,175
yards and scored 27 touchdowns for the Colonels. He was recently named the
Division III South Region offensive player of the year.

During the season, Trichilo had six games in which he rushed for more than
200 yards. He had a season-high 301 yards against Albright.
