Pa. welfare recipients won’t be affected

Despite the federal government shutdown, welfare payments to families with
children in Pennsylvania will not be delayed, said the state Department of
Public WelfareAid to Families with Dependent Children is a joint federal
and state welfare program. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania sends out checks
and is reimbursed months later by the federal government.

“Depending on how long this continues, there may be some effects for the
commonwealth, but that would be months away,” said David Lapan, spokesman for
the state Department of Public Welfare. “There is no danger to welfare
clients. They won’t feel the effect.”
