Nicholas J. Zurenda, 88, of West Pittston, died Thursday at the Buffalo
Valley Nursing Home, Lewisburg. Born Dec. 6, 1910, in Exeter, he was a son of
the late Joseph and Mary Zurenda. He was a graduate of Exeter High School and
lived in West Pittston most of his life. He was a member of the Immaculate
Conception Church, West Pittston. He was a lifetime member of the Emanon
Country Club and was formerly employed at American Chain and Cable Co., West
Pittston. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Louise Parente;
brothers, Joseph and George, sisters, Sophia Davala, Helen Yulis, and Mamie
Lyons. Surviving are daughters, Mary Louise Austin, Atlanta; Rita Bowman,
Lewisburg; and Angela Zurenda, Lafayette Hills; sisters, Anne Simon, Dorothy
Kleback, and Rita Mineo; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; and nieces
and nephews. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Recupero
Funeral Home, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian
Burial at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church with Father Michael
Piccola officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton,
Kingston Township. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception
Church, West Pittston.
