EDWARDSVILLE – A former borough administrator has filed a sex discrimination lawsuit alleging the borough did not rehire her because she was a female, according to a suit filed Tuesday in U.S. Middle District Court, Scranton.
Kristen Kanaske, of Pittston, is seeking more than $75,000 in damages due to loss of employment and income.
The suit states that Kanaske was employed as borough administrator from 2001 to 2004. In June 2004, the borough abolished the position and created a new position entitled borough manager.
The job duties and responsibilities of the new position were substantially equivalent to the administrator position Kanaske held, the suit states.
The borough did not rehire Kanaske, and instead hired Charles Szalkowski for the new position in April 2004.
The suit states that the reason the borough didn’t rehire her was because of her sex.
