STATE W-B BASEBALL PROGRAM SET: The Penn State Wilkes-Barre baseball
program will be holding open houses at 6:30 p.m. today and Thursday at the
Technology Center for prospective student-athletes interested in the Mountain
Lion baseball program.

Head coach Jerry Greeley, assistant coach John Dunn and Penn State
Wilkes-Barre baseball players will be on hand to share information about the
program. Faculty and staff members also will be on hand to answer questions
concerning academics, housing, student life and financial aid.
Student-athletes who cannot attend either open house should contact Greeley
at 472-0271.

WILKES PLAYERS NAMED TO HONOR ROLL: Wilkes University running back Mike
Hankins was named to the Middle Atlantic Conference and Eastern College
Athletic Conference honor rolls after his record-setting performance on
Saturday against Moravian College.

In addition, Wilkes defensive back Jason Weaver was named to the ECAC honor
roll.

Hankins, a sophomore, ran for a Wilkes single-game record of 246 yards and
one touchdown in the Colonels’ 27-21 victory over Moravian. Hankins also
caught three passes for 24 yards and completed one pass for 34 yards that set
up a Wilkes touchdown. Overall, Hankins had a hand in 304 of the Colonels’ 494
yards of total offense for the day. Hankins is 410 yards shy of the Wilkes
all-time record of 2,956 yards.

Weaver, a junior, made eight solo tackles in the game against the
Greyhounds, but it was his pass breakup with less than two minutes to play
that sealed the victory for Wilkes. On a fourth-and-10 play from the Wilkes
22-yard line, Moravian’s quarterback lofted a pass to the end zone that
appeared to be going into the hands of a Moravian receiver. Weaver, however,
came from out of nowhere and knocked the ball out of the receiver’s hands to
preserve the Wilkes victory.

Wilkes, 5-4, will host Lycoming College in its season finale at 1 p.m.
Saturday.

RECLAMATION PROJECT TOPIC OF MEETING: The Stanley Cooper Sr. Chapter of
Trout Unlimited will meet at 7:30 tonight at the VFW on Wyoming Avenue in
Kingston.

Ed Wytovich will be discussing the chapter’s reclamation project on
Bowman’s Creek. Wytovich is an expert at restoring streams affected by acid
mine drainage and acid rain.

He most recently aided efforts to reclaim Catawissa Creek, which was
damaged by severe acid discharge coming from local mine shafts. He will be
outlining various techniques of neutralizing the acid influx Bowman’s Creek
receives each spring from snow runoff.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

MONARCH ON ECAC, MAC HONOR ROLLS: King’s College football standout Jim
DeMaise received a pair of honors as he was selected to the Middle Atlantic
Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference honor rolls.

It was the second time this season DeMaise was honored by the MAC and the
fifth time this season he was honored by the ECAC.

A sophomore tailback, DeMaise set four school records in leading King’s to
a 34-31 victory over FDU Madison. He set two single-game records with 195
yards on 40 carries, while scoring two touchdowns. He also set a pair of
single-season marks with 985 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
DeMaise needs just 15 yards to become the first Monarch runner to reach the
1,000-yard plateau.

King’s will host Jersey City State (5-4) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Monarch
Fields in King’s season finale.
