The fourth annual Blue Ridge Trail Pink & Blue Golf Tournament fundraising event was an all around success as $9,500 was donated to the Prescription Assistance Fund of Medical Oncology Associates in Kingston.

The Pink & Blue tournament theme addressed breast, prostate and colon cancer awareness and support. The event was held June 21.

The Prescription Assistance Fund was established as a non-profit trust in 2001 to help patients in need of medication for lack of appropriate insurance coverage for certain medications used to treat their cancer, pain, infection and blood clotting disorders. Medical Oncology Associates works diligently along with the drug companies to procure funding for patients who are unable to pay for medications, but there is always a “gap” between the time such funding is available and when they need their medication.

“With the help of organization like the Blue Ridge Trail Pink & Blue Golf Tournament, patients are able to leave our office with a prescription in hand, walk across the street and get medication immediately,” said Dr. Bruce Saidman, of Medical Oncology Associates.

The fund also helps cover the cost of transportation for specialty visits out of town when someone cannot afford it. It helps to pay for durable medical equipment such as ostomy supplies, walkers and wheelchairs.

The Pink & Blue Tournament was an official Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club event. The committee worked with Tony Barletta and Flo Alba at Blue Ridge Trail to make the tournament a success. One-hundred four golfers teed it up to enjoy a day of friendly competition and fun. Tournament Committee members included Alison Kryger, Stephanie Grubert, Matt Novak, Pat Kwetkauski, John Kwetkauski, Jane Medvecky and Trish Riley.

Corporate sponsors included the Tambur Family Foundation, Petroleum Service Co.-Black Horse Foundation and Wheelock Street Capital LLC.
