Brownie Troop visits WNEP-TV Back Yard
   
Brownie Troop 3965 from Lehman-Jackson Elementary School toured WNEP-TV,
hosted my meteorologist Noreen Clark. The girls were treated to a tour of the
station and the newly renovated Channel 16 Back Yard. In the back yard are,

LCCC Literary Arts Society presents spring play
   
Students from the drama committee of the Literary Arts Society at Luzerne
County Community College performed the children’s play `Mr. Bunny’s Prize’ for
children in Nanticoke Area Elementary Schools and the Nanticoke Head Start
Center. The play was under the direction of Ron Rogers, adjunct faculty member

GAR students volunteer at WVIA-TV auction
   
Members from Students Against Destructive Decisions, or SADD, of GAR
Memorial High School participated as volunteers at Channel 44, WVIA-TV’s
auction. The purpose of SADD is to involve students in activities that are
alternatives to destructive behavior, such as alcohol and drug use. From left

Dallas PTO sponsors Summer Fun Night
   
Dallas Elementary PTO sponsored its annual Summer Fun Night. Hundreds from
the community came to the event to receive beneficial information on clubs,
camps and activities for their children to attend during the summer. More than
50 representatives from various colleges, businesses and camps participated.
Many donated products are to be raffled during the event. From left are

Tuhy participates in symposium in Brussels
   
Philip Tuhy, chairman of the Slovak Heritage Society of Northeastern
Pennsylvania, participated in a symposium sponsored by the Europeans
Throughout the World, held in Brussels. The federation is composed of national
societies catering to their nationals abroad. The subject of the symposium was

UNICO donates cell phones to domestic violence victims
   
UNICO donated cell phones collected by members to the victims of domestic
violence at Gelpia’z Restaurant in May. Verizon representative Ann Marie Galli
accepted the phones on behalf of Verizon. Verizon will reprogram the phones
with emergency numbers and distribute them to the victims. From left are Glenn

Members of the Greater Federation of Women’s Club Northeastern Club held
its Annual May Dinner at the Ramada Inn, Public Square, Wilkes-Barre. Cathy
Yarmel, outgoing president, reported on the accomplishments of the club during
her administration. The installation of new officers was conducted by Billie

John Heinz Institute Auxiliary holds annual meeting
   
The John Heinz Institute Auxiliary held its annual meeting and Rose Brader
Scholarship Awards Luncheon at the John Heinz Institute of Rehabilitation
Medicine on May 19. This year seven students were chosen to receive this award
and were honored at the luncheon. The fund is named in honor of Rose Brader, a
former director of volunteer services at the John Heinz Institute who was an
outstanding community leader with a strong commitment to the advancement of

Geisinger recognizes Delaney and Waszkiewicz
   
James `Jay’ Delaney, emergency medical technician/paramedic, Wilkes-Barre
City Fire Department, and Christine Waszkiewicz, registered nurse,
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, were named Outstanding Emergency Medical
Service Providers of 2004 by Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. In
recognition of National Emergency Medical Services Week, Delaney and
Waszkiewicz were awarded for their outstanding heroism while providing
essential care every day on the medical front line. From left are Delaney,

Serve Your City Club celebrates anniversary
   
The Serve Your City Club of Wilkes-Barre held its 87th anniversary at the
Irem Temple Country Club. The club was established in 1917 to aid in the World
War I effort. It focuses on fund-raising to assist local Wyoming Valley
