LEHMAN — Wyoming Seminary proved to be too Quick for Lake-Lehman Friday afternoon.

Alexis Quick scored three goals and the Blue Knights used their speed to run past the host Black Knights, 9-4, in a battle between the Wyoming Valley Conference’s divisional leaders.

“We’re at our best when we’re fast-paced and aggressive,” Quick said. “That’s really when we shine.

“It really works in our favor.”

Quick did all of her scoring in a stretch of a little more than 15 minutes.

After anticipating a pass to make a steal, Quick raced 60 yards, and sped through six Lake-Lehman players before finishing with the shot 1:05 before halftime that created a 6-2 lead.

Just 20 seconds after Lake-Lehman cut into that lead early in the second half, Quick picked up a loose ball at midfield, again ran through the defense and scored for a 7-3 advantage.

Another run by Quick helped draw an infraction on Lake-Lehman. Quick then scored on the restart for an 8-3 lead with 10:51 to play.

“She’s all over the field,” Wyoming Seminary coach Catie Kersey said. “When she gets the ball and a head of steam, she’s going to fly down the field.”

Before Quick took over, the Blue Knights responded to one of their few deficits.

Alyssa Adams scored the first of her three goals – connecting on the game’s first shot – to give Lake-Lehman a 1-0 lead just 1:56 into the game.

The Black Knights also scored on their second shot. The problem for Lake-Lehman was that it did not get another shot for 17:49 while Kate Romanowski and Abigail Straub were scoring two goals each to help create a 5-1 lead for Wyoming Seminary.

“I think if we get behind, we work a lot harder to get back,” Romanowski said. “We work better in a fast-paced game and we really picked up the pace.”

Kersey was happy with the way the two-time defending WVC champion and current Division 1-leading Blue Knights played while improving to 9-0 in the conference.

“I am very proud of the girls, not only in terms of how we played after that goal, but I also think we played a better second half,” Kersey said. “I was proud of how they regrouped and came back.

“I thought in the second half, we were a lot more aggressive and created more turnovers.”

Makenzie Borum helped keep Wyoming Seminary from breaking the game open by making 11 saves for Lake-Lehman, several on point-blank shots.

“Their goalie did a nice job,” Kersey said. “She definitely kept them in the game.”

Lake-Lehman, the Division 2 leader, fell to 7-2.
