LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a 44-year-old Lancaster woman was struck by a boat while competing in a 3-mile ocean swim off the coast of Ocean City, Maryland.

LNP reports (http://bit.ly/29YmNZR ) Heather Gehron-Rice was competing in the fourth-annual Ocean Games and was within sight of the finish line when she was hit on Saturday.

Maryland authorities say Gehron-Rice suffered a deep cut to her left hand, which was most likely caused by a boat’s propeller.

The Coast Guard veteran told police that she felt something hit her head and immediately noticed something wrong with her hand.

Several boats were in the water at the time of the race. The boater who struck Gehron-Rice hasn’t been located.
