Dunn’s hearing postponed to July 17

SCRANTON – A hearing that will determine whether federal charges against Wilkes-Barre Area School Director Brian Dunn should proceed to trial has been postponed until July 17.

The hearing, known as a preliminary examination, was scheduled for today. Dunn’s attorney, Scott Griffith, sought a continuance because Griffith is scheduled to appear at a trial in Delaware County.

Dunn, 45, of Wilkes-Barre, was charged on April 21 with accepting tens of thousands of dollars in kickbacks in exchange for his influence in the awarding of contracts and the hiring of teachers within the district from January 2005 to December 2008. He remains free on his own recognizance.
