New ice rink opens this morning

WILKES-BARRE – Mayor Thomas M. Leighton, along with members of the Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton Penguins, will showcase the newly renovated ice rink at Coal Street Park during a ceremony this morning.

The facility – part of the nearly $14 million renovation of Coal Street Park – will open at 10:30 a.m.

“This extensive rehabilitation project will inject life into one of the city’s most highly trafficked roadways, create an attractive entrance to downtown Wilkes-Barre and provide excellent public recreation offerings,” Leighton said.
