Robert J. Gabel Sr., of Franklin Street, Edwardsville, died Saturday in
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born Dec. 7, 1927, in Jackson Township, he was
the son of the late Jacob J. and Retta (Coolbaugh) Gabel. He was a graduate of
Lehman High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He
was employed as a truck driver for Charles H. Long, Sweet Valley, (later known
as Suburban Oil Co.,) for 25 years. He resided in Edwardsville for many years,
where he was a member of the Dr. Edwards Memorial Congregational Church. He
was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel; and brother, Daniel. Surviving are
his son, Robert J. Gabel Jr., Harding, Exeter Township; daughters, Linda
Blackwell, at home; Tina Gabel, Larksville; brother, Edmund, Luzerne; sisters,
Dorothy Shorts, Edwardsville; Ruth Smith, New Jersey; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Hugh Jones Funeral Home, 392
Wyoming Ave., Kingston, with the Rev. Donald Littleton officiating. Interment
will be in Lehman Center Cemetery, Lehman Township. Friends may call from 7 to
