WILKES-BARRE

AREA SCHOOL BOARD
Random testing planned for school bus drivers

The Wilkes-Barre Area School Board on Tuesday approved a plan to conduct
random drug and alcohol testing for district school bus drivers.

The district took the action in compliance with the Federal Department of
Transportation regulations and will enter into an agreement with Work Med, a
division of Allied Services, Wilkes-Barre, to conduct the random testing, said
board member Edward Biniek, chairman of the distirct’s Budget and Finance
Committee.

After the meeting, attorney Alice Corba talked about the status of the
district’s new $13.7 million elementary school in Plains Township.

“Construction is currently in progress,” Corba said. “The construction
firm, Garbade (Construction Corp. of Binghamton, N.Y.), is proceeding with
winter work in terms of preparing the subsurface, which requires tunnels
beneath the ground.”

In other business, the board publicly commended and thanked the district
administration, faculty, staff and students who volunteered their time at GAR
Memorial High School to assist the victims of the recent flooding.
