    H. Samuel Jones, of Green Street, Edwardsville, died Sunday at the
   
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he was a patient for the past two
weeksBorn in Edwardsville, July 4, 1910, he was the son of the late Samuel and
Laura Jones.
   
He attended Edwardsville schools, where he was active on the football and
basketball teams.
   
He attended Mt. Hermon Preparatory School, Northfield, Mass., and the
American Academy of Mortuary Science, New York City.
   
He worked with the Jones Funeral Home, Edwardsville.
   
He was also a long-distance truck driver for Great Lakes Forwarding Co.,
Buffalo, N.Y., from 1951 to 1972, and later for Interstate Bakeries of
Kingston.
   
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Panama.
   
He was a member of the Dr. Edwards Memorial Congregational Church,
Edwardsville.
   
He was a past commander of Edwardsville American Legion and a life member
of Columbia Hose Co. No. 3, Edwardsville. He was a member of the Six County
Firemen’s Association, the King David Lodge No. 763, F&AM and the National
Funeral Directors Association.
   
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen Leeshock, in
November, 1996.
   
Surviving are his daughter, Leslie, at home; son, Samuel Jr., Bristol,
Maine; one granddaughter.
   
Funeral
