Crestwood (8-1) at Coughlin (7-2)
7 p.m. Saturday
The Coaches: Crestwood’s Greg Myers (56-49, 8th year); Coughlin’s Ciro Cinti (47-39, 8th year)
Last Meeting: Coughlin 42-20 in 2012
All-Time Series: Coughlin leads 12-4
Quick Fact: Crestwood led last year’s game 14-7 at halftime.
Scouting Crestwood: The Comets won their eighth in a row with a 35-0 victory over Williamsport last Friday. Once again, there was little need to throw the ball. RB Matt Bobeck rushed for a career-high 160 yards and QB Jay Popson added 111 more. Leading rusher RB Frank Aigeldinger dinged up his ankle in the first quarter and didn’t return. His status is questionable. The run defense has allowed 7 yards on 41 carries the past two games, but neither opponent can come close to the running game Coughlin will present.
Scouting Coughlin: A late second-quarter touchdown by Berwick turned everything around last Friday as Coughlin fell to the Dawgs 39-7. The worst part was RB/LB Paul Cole (shoulder) and WR/DB Darik Johnson (leg) left the game in the second half with injuries. Both are key components on both sides of the ball and are expected to play. Johnson did an excellent job shutting down Berwick big-play receiver Andrew Force, yet the secondary surrendered three TD passes. The defense’s two worst games against the run and pass correspond with the team’s two losses.
What To Expect: The winner is guaranteed a berth in the D2-3A playoffs. The loser heads to the Eastern Conference playoffs likely as the top seed. Should be a great game to end the regular season and enjoyable for those who love throwback football.
