Dallas (1-8) at Lake-Lehman (8-1)
7 p.m. today
The Coaches: Dallas’ Bob Zaruta (8-12, 2nd year); Lehman’s Jerry Gilsky (26-15, 4th year)
Last Meeting: Dallas 51-6 in 2012
All-Time Series: Dallas leads 42-13-2
Quick Fact: Dallas has won 11 of the last 12 meetings in the Old Shoe Game.
Scouting Dallas: Dallas finally had a breakout game on offense last Saturday, albeit against a young and banged-up Tunkhannock squad. The offense scored three touchdowns in the 35-0 victory after having six through the first eight games. Justin Mucha continued to show big-play ability by returning an interception and a punt for touchdowns. RB Ryan Cheskiewicz finished with a career-high 142 yards, becoming the first Mountaineer to top 100 on the ground this year. However, the number was skewed a bit by a 59-yard run late in the game when Tunkhannock was clearly gassed.
Scouting Lehman: The Black Knights rolled once again, defeating Hanover Area 43-6 last Friday. Hanover Area’s TD came with 1:32 to play, so this was essentially a shutout by the starters. It was the fourth time Lehman has held an opponent to seven points or less. Sophomore WB Joey Vigil had a big game and is 33 yards from 1,000. If he gets them, he’ll join FB Dustin Jones as a 1,000-yard rusher. The defense did allow some big plays, but found ways to recover. It continues to win the turnover battle.
What To Expect: Despite Dallas’ record, it will have the best defense Lehman has faced since the opener at Old Forge. That could make things interesting for awhile, but the Black Knights aren’t about to let their Back Mountain rivals ruin their eight-game winning streak and a chance at home field throughout the D2-2A playoffs.
