Want to commemorate Earth Day with a DVD or Blu-Ray? Track down a trio of movies that do a splendid job celebrating the great outdoors.

“DISNEYNATURE: OCEANS” (2010, DISNEY, UNRATED, $30): For the follow-up to the acclaimed “Earth,” Disney hired “Microcosmos” and “Winged Migration” maestro Jacques Perrin to work his magic on marine life.

Thanks to state-of-the-art underwater cameras, Perrin delivers dazzling images of migrating whales, darting dolphins, vibrating jellyfish and a mantis shrimp with a case of the munchies.

You’ll be enthralled.

Available now for sale and at rental outlets.

“THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS: DIRECTOR’S DEFINITIVE CUT” (1992, FOX, R, $35): Blu-Ray only intensifies the absorbing tale of a pre-Revolutionary American scout named Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis) who falls in love with a British officer’s daughter (Madeleine Stowe) while protecting her from a band of Indian guerrillas. Director Michael Mann manages to make the woods, waterfalls and meadows of North Carolina look like heaven on earth.
Available now for sale and at rental outlets.

“INTO THE COLD” (2011, INTOTHECOLD.ORG, UNRATED, $20): This absorbing documentary hitches a ride with environmentalist Sebastian Copeland as he attempts to follow in Robert Peary’s footsteps and walk to the North Pole. Copeland gets a bit preachy about global warming, but the jaw-dropping vistas are something. One critic noted it’s a thrilling mix of “high adventure and low temperatures.” Available for sale at intothecold.org and at rental outlets.
