TUNKHANNOCK — The Tunkhannock singles players swept Crestwood en route to a 3-2 victory Thursday in boys tennis. Tony Shao won first singles after falling on an 11-9 tiebreaker in the first set.

Nate Underwood and Dan Greenip picked up wins.

Crestwood’s doubles teams both received victories. Robby Keenan and David Madl won 7-2 in a third-set tiebreaker for the victory in first doubles.

Dallas 3, Pittston Area 2

The doubles teams for the Mountaineers came through as the pairs of Frank Bevevino and Anthony DeLuca, as well as Joe Bevevino and Cameron Tuck, came through with victories.

Trent Woodruff and Tyler Woodruff each won in singles matches for the Patriots.

MMI Prep 4, Holy Redeemer 1

The Preppers used two three-set victories to spoil the Royals. Nick Vilon, Billy Spear and Jonathan Smith all recorded singles wins for MMI Prep. Evan Spear and Katie McGuire won in doubles.

Holy Redeemer received a first doubles win from Bailey Endler and James Blewitt.

Hazleton Area 3, Berwick 2

Donald Tedesa and Mauro Notaro helped the Cougars drop the Bulldogs in a tight match. Austin Veva and Adam Grula won first doubles.

Berwick received a three-set win by Luke Whitenight. Giuseppe Baratta won 6-2, 6-4.

Wyoming Area 4, Coughlin 1

Wyoming Area won the top-two singles matches to oust the Crusaders.

Nick Leon and Mike Werbin were victories for the Warriors. The second doubles team of Ken Moran and Austin Alder won 6-4, 7-6 (8).


King’s split twinbill

King’s softball team forged a doubleheader split with traditional national power Ithaca. The Bombers won the opening game 12-9, before King’s took the nightcap 4-3.

Rachel Linso was the winning pitcher for King’s, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out one batter. Erin Beane was 3-for-4 in the nightcap.

Maggie Gola led the Monarchs in the opener by going 2-for-2 with a grand slam. Amy Kowalczyk and Jenn Harischfeger had two hits.


Misericordia 12, Scranton 8

Misericordia won for the first time over Scranton after losing the previous seven meetings between the two programs.

Melina Juliano led the Cougars with three goals. Kate Pagnotta, Erin Baker, Alexandra Elmes and Liz Mulvey added two apiece.
