Nathalie Joanlanne made winning a state championship look easy over the weekend.

The Wyoming Seminary junior won four times at the Hershey Racquet Club on Friday and Saturday to claim the PIAA Class 2A Girls Singles Championship.

Joanlanne only lost one set during the tournament and that during her very first match on Friday afternoon.

She lost that set to Lin Robertson from Berks Catholic 2-6, but rebounded exceptionally well to claim the school’s first gold medal in girls tennis.

After dropping the first set, she came back to beat Robertson 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday. She then dispatched Samantha Gohh from Sewickley Academy only losing two games combined in the two sets winning 6-1, 6-1 to move on to Saturday’s semifinals.

That’s when Joanlanne faced Genevieve Hobson from New Hope-Solebury and again won in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Joanlanne a little more trouble in the finals against McConnellsburg freshman Brownyne Mellott.

Joanlanne won both sets but after winning the first set 6-4, a tiebreaker was needed in the second set. That was no problem for the Blue Knights star as she won 7-6 (7-4) to claim the gold medal.
