Crestwood advances in girls D2 tennis

WRIGHT TWP. — Crestwood advanced to the semifinals of the girls District 2-4 Class 3A team tennis tournament on Monday with a slim 3-2 victory over Coughlin.


Kristi Bowman picked up a victory in the top flight with a 6-2, 6-1 win.


Brittany Stanton also secured a singles victory (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 2 spot. Jennie and Stacie Snyder picked up a win in the first doubles.


Kristi Pearage gathered the lone Crusaders singles victory. Chloe Hutter and Teagan Bigelow locked a victory at second doubles.


Girls Volleyball


Meyers 3, Pittston Area 1


The Mohawks’ Angela Moses (9 kills, 9 digs) was a kill and a dig away from a double-double as Meyers overcame a first set loss to defeat Pittston Area. The Mohawks won by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-23.


Salinah Biggs had 11 assists and seven kills for Meyers.


Pittston Area’s Kirsten Durling contributed 20 assists, and Jackie Ravender had 20 digs.


Wyoming Valley West 3, Coughlin 0


Gavyn Giza passed the 100-kill mark for the season with an 11 kill performance. She added three aces. Sarah Fugate had 11 aces, and Alexa Vargo registered five aces.


Kelsey Stachokus garnered seven digs for the Crusaders.


Wyoming Area 3, MMI Prep 0


Mallory Bohan had six kills and Nicole Wright added five to help the Warriors sweep MMI Prep.


Kristin Purcell paced the Preppers with 10 kills.


College Men’s Soccer


Fitzgerald named top keeper


Misericordia men’s soccer keeper Barry Fitzgerald earned Freedom Conference Defender/Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Fitzgerald led the Cougars to a Saturday win by posting his eighth shutout of the year against Manhattanville. He made five saves in the win.


College Field Hockey


Pasquini wins Freedom laurel


Misericordia field hockey goalkeeper Angela Pasquini received Freedom Conference Defender/Goalkeeper of the Week honors. It is Pasquini’s second straight week with the award after helping lead the Cougars to a thrilling 3-2 overtime win against Delaware Valley on Oct. 12. She made 12 saves in the win while also making two saves in a tough 1-0 loss against William Paterson on Oct. 8.
