Wyoming Seminary wrestler EricMorris has been named the NHSCA/GTM February Athlete of the Month. Morris, of Mechanicsburg, is the first athlete from the area to be nominated for the national award, according to the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA).
Morris, a senior, was one of seven athletes from across the country nominated for the award and is also in the running to be recognized as the NHSCA/GTM Athlete of the Year.
In addition, Morris, who is ranked No. 1 in the nation at 182-pounds by InterMatWrestling, has been named to compete in Sunday’s Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic at the University of Pittsburgh. He will be wrestling No. 3-ranked Domenic Abounader of St. Edwards — the two have wrestled twice previously with one win apiece.
Morris finished his this season with a 37-0 record and a career mark of 148-15. He has won two national prep championships and is a four-time Prep All-American. He also won the State Prep Tournament championship and helped lead the Blue Knights to the state team championship and a second-place finish at the National Prep Tournament this season.
The son of the Rev. and Mrs. Mark Morris of Mechanicsburg, Morris will continue his academic and athletic career at Harvard in the fall, wrestling at 184 pounds for head coach Jay Weiss in the NCAA Div. I Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association.
