Elizabeth “Elsie” Leutner Busch, 87, Clarks Summit, died Saturday, Dec. 4, in the Hospice Unit at Mercy Hospital, Scranton. For 48 years, she was the wife of Edward “Ed” Roman Busch.

Born March 7, 1923, in Schramburg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Engelbert and Maria Leutner. She came to the United States at age 2 and was educated and a graduate of Fairview High School, Fairview, N.J. She was first married to Theodore Hirsch, who died in 1960. Elsie and Ed were married in 1962 and shortly thereafter moved to Clarks Summit.

Elsie was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church and its Women’s Guild. She also volunteered in the church office. She was a beautiful person who was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and spending happy times with them. Elsie enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. An animal lover, she especially enjoyed her cats and bird watching. Her soft gentleness will be sadly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Also surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Reese, Womelsdorf; sons, Theodore C. Hirsch and wife, Julie, Stone Ridge, N.Y.; and John Busch and wife, Jill, Dillsburg; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brother, Carl Leutner.

A memorial Mass was to be celebrated Dec. 7 in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, by Monsignor James J. McGarry. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Snows Building Fund, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411. Arrangements were by the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit.
