After reading the editorial “Put casino cash to better use” (July 10), I couldn’t help but wonder, why not use this money for that which it was originally intended – property tax relief?
Gov. Ed Rendell’s campaign strategy stated: “Expected proceeds from gambling would be distributed to the school districts to lower property taxes.” By 2003, Rendell was saying that there would be more than a billion dollars a year to help the weary taxpayers.
Today, those campaign promises are long forgotten, as we see property tax rates rising. So, when looking for a use for the casino cash, pay down our property taxes. We don’t need any more garbage trucks or any more $500,000 tow-along asphalt makers.
