Hazleton police captured a man wanted since 1993 on a contempt of court charge during a traffic stop.

Kenneth W. Nickles Jr., 53, of Drifton, was stopped for a violation at about 8:20 a.m. Monday. A records check showed he was wanted by the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Department for failing to appear in County Court in 1993.

According to court records, Nickles pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol, disorderly conduct and driving with a suspended license in 1993. The charges were filed by Freeland police in 1992.

Court records say an arrest warrant was issued for Nickles on Oct. 25, 1993, and he has unpaid fines totaling $1,243.

Nickles was jailed at the county prison.
