The “ Precious Gems ” Puppet Troupe will present their annual Christmas holiday program for children and adults at 7 p.m. on Sunday evening, December 7, at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 317 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston. The delightful and uplifting show is entitled “Countdown to Christmas” and will feature songs to sing along with and skits with a seasonal message from the puppets and performers. On Sunday, November 10, eleven CCD students from St. Joseph’s Church, Wyoming traveled to St. Joseph’s Center in Scranton to engage in recreational activities with the residents. The students, some of whom have never been in contact with severely disabled or mentally challenged people, displayed exemplary attitudes and behavior at the facility. An Advent spiritual retreat will be held at the Oblates of St. Joseph Seminary, Route 315, Laflin, on Sunday, December 7, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. The afternoon will be hosted by the Oblates of St. Joseph Lay Cooperators and the retreat will be under the direction of the Capuchin Sisters of Nazareth.

Holiday Fair
St. John’s Church, corner of Front and Welles Streets in Hanover Section of Nanticoke will hold a holiday fair/rummage sale on Friday, December 12 and on Saturday, December 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sale will be held in the church parlors and will feature a variety of holiday decorations (Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Valentines Day), new in-the-package gift items, collectibles, used and new jewelry, glassware, toys, books, etc. Kitchen will be opened both days serving halushki, pierogi, and more.
Oblates Lay Cooperators
The Oblates of St. Joseph Lay Cooperator Society will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, December 3, at the Oblates of St. Joseph Seminary, Route 315 in Pittston.
The meeting will follow the 7:00 p.m. Novena to St. Joseph and St. Joseph Marello.
The lay society welcomes anyone who would like to support the local Oblate priests in their spiritual and apostolic work.
Christmas Craft Fair
The Christian Education Committee of the First Presbyterian Church, 97 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre is planning its 14th annual Alternative Christmas Craft Fair for Saturday, December 6, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the church.
The Alternative Christmas Craft Fair offers families an opportunity to spend time together, making items such as wreaths, and purchasing hand-made crafts from local artisans, as well as third world crafts made in locations around the world.
The Women of the First Presbyterian Church will also be having a bake sale.
A light lunch will be available.
The public is invited to attend the Alternative Christmas Craft Fair.
There is no entrance charge. Tables are also available to crafters for a small fee.

Religious Education Classes for students in grades 1 through 6 meet on Sunday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in the Religious Education Center. All children, grades 1 through 6, registered in public or private school should be attending Religious Education classes.
In order to enter more deeply into this Year of St. Paul, Father Tom is leading a Scripture Study of St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians. There are two programs, one on Tuesday mornings from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. and one on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Both programs are held in the Religious Education Center at St. Mary, Help of Christians.

On the first Friday of each month Communion is brought to those who are unable to participate in Sunday Mass because of age or health. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is celebrated with anyone seriously ill, anticipating a serious operation, or quite elderly. Monday Masses will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. We have been asked to clarify the following: Attending Mass on Sunday prior to the Vigil does not fulfill the obligation for the Holy Day Mass and attendance at the Vigil Mass for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception does not fulfill the Sunday obligation. These are two separate liturgies.

The annual Christmas Project in which we participate began last weekend. A Christmas tree with Angel ornaments is in the vestibule of the Church. Each ornament includes the name of a child with pertinent information which will enable the buyer to determine what is right for the child chosen.
The ornaments will be available this weekend and next. The gifts purchased must be returned (wrapped with the ornament on the package) the weekends of December 6 or December 13. This will enable the two organizations which we are assisting (Children & Youth of Luzerne Co. and Catholic Social Services) to distribute the gifts to the families in time for Christmas.

The gift request tags that are on the tree list some special gifts for some special people in our community who are in need of assistance this holiday season. If you RSVP by e-mail, please be sure to include “Christmas Party” in the subject line. Children may bring a small gift for “Toys for Tots” to the party; however it is not required to participate in this fun-filled event.

Al-Anon, a support group offering hope and help to families and friends of alcoholics, meets Mondays at 7 p.m. in the basement meeting room of St. Mary’s Rectory, 715 Hawthorne St., and Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the basement meeting room of the Brick United Methodist Church, 935 Foote Ave., Duryea.
Anyone who has been impacted by someone else’s drinking can find solutions that lead to serenity in the Al-Anon fellowship.
