Leo Victor Kaminski, 83, of the Hanover Green section of Hanover Township, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born December 10, 1926, in Hanover Township, and was a son of the late Victor and Rose Jantek Kaminski. He attended Hanover Township schools.
Leo served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, participating in both the Pacific and European Theaters. He was awarded the Navy Unit commendation citation while serving on the U.S.S. Adams for outstanding heroism in action while serving in operations for the seizure of enemy Japanese-held Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands. He also served during the Normandy D-Day invasion while serving on the Glennon destroyer.
Prior to retirement, he was employed by Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Sparrows Point, Md., and Bridon American in Hanover Township. He was the chairman of the Hanover Township Zoning Board, a life member of the V.F.W. Post 283, Amvets Post 59.
Leo was also a member of American Legion Post 609. He was a member of Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, Buttonwood, Hanover Township, and of its Men’s Club.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond J. Kaminski, of Dupont.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, the former RoseMarie Dubick; brother, Joseph and his wife, Jane, of Exeter; sister, Helen Samuels, of Baltimore, Md.; daughter, Kathy Kaminski, of Nanticoke; sister-in-law, Mary Kaminski, of Dupont; as well as several nieces and a nephew, John Kaminski, of Exeter.

Funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Charles V. Sherbin Funeral Home, 630 Main Rd., Hanover Green. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. in the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, Buttonwood. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
