PITTSTON – Fire damaged an insurance company on Market Street Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Castiglione Insurance at 10 Market Street in Pittston sustained fire, smoke and water damage to the basement and light smoke and water damage to the upper two floors, said Assistant Fire Chief Bill Williams.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state police fire marshal.
Williams said crews were called to the blaze just before midnight and there was heavy smoke coming from the rear of the building. Crews had the fire contained a short time later and returned to fire headquarters around 3 a.m.
Nobody was injured, Williams said.
The two neighboring buildings were evacuated as a safety precaution but resident were able to return once the fire was extinguished.
The building is owned and occupied by David Castiglione, an independent insurance agent for Progressive and other insurance companies. Castiglione said the damage was limited to the basement and he was back in the office working on Thursday morning. He said some records in the basement were damaged. He thanked the Pittston Fire Department for their quick response.
