Community readies for annual festival set for May 3 and 4

The West Pittston Cherry Blossom Festival Committee will meet for its final meeting at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 27 in the Corpus Christi Parish in the school building off Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston to discuss final preparations of the festival.

Committee members unable to attend the meeting should forward all final preparations to President Bob Messina.

West Pittston Cherry Blossom Festival is set for Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 on the grounds off the Water Street Bridge. This year’s fetival will have arts and crafts, food, entertainment, Cherry Picks, Little Miss Cherry Blossom and West Pittston Cherry Blossom’s Got Talent.

The 43rd West Pittston Cherry Blossum Parade will be at noon on Saturday, May 3. If you or your group would like to take part in the parade, please contact parade chairman Ralph Salerno at 570-780-0231 or email sal602@frontier.com. The parade will be approximately two miles long and will begin on Exeter Avenue across from Cenera Auto Parts.

The Little Miss Cherry Blossom Contest is open to all little girls between 5 and 8 years of age living in the Greater Pittston area. Participants will ride in the annual Cherry Blossom Parade, perform a talent and answer fun questions. Professional judges will choose the winners. Also, contestants are needed for the West Pittston Cherry Blossom’s Got Talent contest. Singers, dancers, actors, comics and musicians are welcome to enter. All ages may participate. Prizes to be awarded in each age category. Contest is at noon on Sunday, May4. Contact Malsky at 570-332-7817 to sign up.
