The Wilkes men’s basketball team has announced its recruiting class for the 2010-11 season, adding six players to the roster, including a former Division I player.

Two players hail from Pennsylvania, including District 2 alum Brendan Sheldon of Delaware Valley. Two more come from New Jersey and the fifth incoming freshman arrives from Virginia.

The sixth is Binghamton, N.Y., native Matthew Mullins, who played one season for Division I Binghamton University and one season for Broome Community College.

Wilkes must replace a pair of full-time starters in Tom Kresge and Anthony Gabriel, along with guard Chris Gulla.

Three players who started for most of the 2009-10 season – guard Chris DeRojas, guard Tyler Breznitsky and swingman Paul Huch – have eligibility remaining, as does forward Kendall Hinze, who has seen significant minutes.

The Colonels and coach Jerry Rickrode are hopeful the incoming class bolsters that group in their quest to return to the postseason.

“A great deal of work went into attaining a recruiting class of this caliber,” Rickrode said in a release. “We feel this class is a combination of very good basketball players and quality people. They will represent our institution in a very positive fashion both on and off the court.”
