Hazle Mart was open for business Sunday afternoon after a morning robbery.
The gas station and convenience store at the corner of Hazle and Blackman streets was robbed around 11 a.m, in the third such incident in less than a week.
A customer reported the robbery by cellphone, according to a 911 dispatch supervisor. Wilkes-Barre police have not made any arrests but said officers are considering a suspect.
The robbery, in which a masked man reached into the register and took cash in excess of $100 and also a packet of Kool cigarettes, was similar to two others that happened on Wednesday and Thursday last week, store employee Mohammad Sarker said.
Police said they do not believe Sunday’s thief is the same man who robbed the gas station last week; however, Sarker said the man, who wore gloves and a mask, sounded the same each time, wore the same clothing and always had the same objective: cash and cigarettes.
Sunday’s robbery was the sixth such incident at Hazle Mart in three months, and Sarker said he believes the same man is to blame for each of them.
