DUNMORE —Route 348 will be closed for a little longer than expected.
PennDOT was initially scheduled to close Route 348 in Mt. Cobb, Lackawanna County, starting Friday night at 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. this morning. The closure was for crews to replace a box culvert over a local bridge on Route 348.
PennDOT James May said in an email that the closure will go a little longer than expected.
“Due to some issues with the bridge abutment and with sewer lines, this bridge will not be opened until late tonight or early tomorrow morning (Monday night or early Tuesday morning),” May said. “By completely closing down the road, the contractor is able to complete this work in a matter of a few days, as opposed to a few months that would normally be required if they had to build a temporary bridge to maintain traffic during construction.”
The closure is 1/4 of a mile east of the intersection of Route 2003 Cortez Road / Smokin Joes Store. A detour takes traffic from Route 348 over Wimmers Road to Route 590 towards Hamlin to the intersection with Route 348.
