NANTICOKE — An early morning fire on Tuesday forced the evacuation of 47 patients at the Nanticoke Villa Personal Care Home on West Walnut Street.

Barb Pace, personal care home administrator, said a fire broke out inside a second-floor apartment at about 2 a.m. Pace said the patients were evacuated to the Greater Nanticoke Area High School, which is standard operating procedure. Pace said the fire was contained to the second-floor apartment, adding there were no injuries.

“All the girls (nurses, nursing aides) were terrific evacuating all the patients,” Pace said.

Pace said she is hopeful patients will be able to return later today after the building is cleaned from water and smoke damage.
