Morning commuters that use Interstate 81 should expect some delays this morning.
PennDOT is reporting that there will be a single-lane closure on I-81 south beginning at 9 a.m. this morning. The closure will be for pothole repair between Exit 170B (Wilkes Barre) and Exit 168 (Highland Park).
It was also reported that there was a single-lane closure on I-81 north. PennDOT spokesman James May said a contractor worked through the night in preparation for work on the bridge, but equipment issues prevented crews from finishing by 6 a.m. as expected. Work was expected to be finished by 8 a.m.
PennDOT’s 511.com website indicates heavy traffic on I-81 northbound, with a section of stop-and-go traffic near the Route 309 interchange. Heavy traffic is also reported on I-81 southbound near Dupont.
Free-flowing and moderate traffic is reported in Wilkes-Barre, with some heavy traffic indicated on North River Street. Moderate traffic is also being reported in Kingston.
