WILKES-BARRE — City police late Thursday filed child rape charges against an 86-year-old man alleging he assaulted a 6-year-old girl for several months.

Angel Roman Gonzalez, of Academy Street, Wilkes-Barre, is facing rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault and corruption of minors. The charges were filed with District Judge Martin Kane in Wilkes-Barre.

Police allege the girl’s mother walked into her residence on April 26 and found her daughter’s nightgown pushed up and a worried look on the girl’s face.

Gonzalez was in the kitchen and left the house, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said in the complaint the girl was questioned at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania where she described alleged sexual attacks by Gonzalez.

Gonzalez has not been arraigned as of Friday morning.
