BENTON TWP. — Dwayne Ferguson, 32, of Baltimore, Maryland, was recovered from Deer Lake in Benton Township at 11 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland.

Ferguson had left his boat to swim around 5:20 p.m. Saturday and disappeared underwater, Rowland said.

It is believed Ferguson was visiting a friend in the area, Rowland said.

Volunteer dive units from Scott, Germania (Duryea), Ledgedale,Tafton with support personnel from Fleetville, Mayfield, Factoryville and Dalton searched Sunday morning and found Ferguson underwater 40 feet under water.

The coroner’s office is to conduct forensic examination on Monday to determine cause and manner of death, Rowland said. State Police in Dunmore are investigating the incident.
